Welcome to Islamorada: Home of the great TARPON and backcountry fishing.
Captain Russ has been fishing out of Whale Harbor Marina for three decades carrying friends to fun productive fishing adventures, whether it’s for heavyweight TARPON or light tackle spin fishing for Snook, Redfish, Sea trout and more in the shallow pristine back country of Everglades National Park.
TARPON season in the Islamorada area consists of the months of March – April – May – June – July
Tackle may be 30# conventional or 20# spinning gear depending on the time of season. Live bait under a float OR cut bait while chumming are the two most productive methods and again depends on time and conditions.
The boat is a stable 21 foot Parker center console with a roomy 8.5 wide beam re-powered in 2014.
TARPON trips may be half a day or full day in duration, a decision we will discuss when we book your trip. One option is a “TARPON Plus” trip in which we start out early catching TARPON and then break out the light tackle to do some rod bending in the back country. A full day 8 hour outing.
Incidental catches while TARPON fishing could be Sharks or Permit fish, adding some variety to the experience.
When you book your fishing with TARPON Country Charters you will fish with one captain who lives in the keys and fishes 365 days a year, there is no “fleet”, just one guide and one boat to return to year after year. If you party needs more than one boat I will be happy to set up other captains for our trip. Families with children, groups of any description or company trips are the kind of folks we cater to.
Light tackle action for Redfish, Snook and Trout!
